Hewlett-Packard Efficiency of a companyââ¬â¢s performance to a large extend depends on its operations management. Effective operations management contributes to the development of competitive advantages and achievement of companyââ¬â¢s main aim of maximizing profit. According to Panneerselvam (2012), ââ¬Å"operation management is the process which combines and transforms various resources used in operations subsystem of the organization into value added product/services in a controlled manner as per the policies of the organizationâ⬠(p. 12). Operations management addresses dayto- day issues of inventory and production management, supply chain, procurement, sales planning, outsourcing and other operating questions. Hewlett-Packard has a strong system of operations management which allows the company to hold one of the leading positions in the industry. Company Overview Hewlett-Packard operates in a computer hardware sector. The company has a long history. It was founded in 1939 in United States. The headquarter is situated in Palo Alto, California. Name of the company was made of surnames of its founders - William R. Hewlett and David Packard. First products of the company were low-frequency generators and minicomputers. Nowadays Hewlett-Packard employs about 317 thousands persons. Its annual sales amounted to 112 billion US dollars and profit was a little more than 5 billion US dollars in 2014 (Forbes, 2014).
